If you are injured at work and wish to safeguard your right to compensation talk to Alexanders Lawyers as soon as you can.

What to do first:
Call our Helpline 9325 9996.

Prompt telephone advice is invaluable! You will either talk to Kath Mitchell, Blair Doncon - or one of our other helpful staff.

You will be offered simple, direct, easy to understand advice on what to do about all the problems you are facing as a result of being injured.

And you will not receive an account from us, unless and until you instruct us to open a file and act on your behalf.

What YOU should do to help yourself if injured at work:
1. Get the names, addresses and telephone numbers of witnesses.
2. Report the accident to your Safety Office or Supervisor.
3. Take photographs of site of accident if appropriate.
4. Take photographs of your injuries is they are visible.
5. Go to your own Doctor - NOT the one suggested by your employer - and explain any resulting symptoms.
6. Contact us for initial advice to ensure that you’re on the right track.

WARNING:
Strict time limits may apply to your injury.
Just be aware that the Workers’ Compensation system is far from worker-friendly, and you need someone to guide you through the maze. If you wish to safeguard your right to compensation, it is essential to seek legal advice promptly.

What will it cost?
At Alexanders Lawyers we are always upfront with everything we do, including discussing our fees. There is no obligation for you to proceed with us unless you are fully satisfied and understand what legal costs are involved.

Common Law Claim for serious bodily injuries
If you are seriously injured a Common Law claim may give you far greater compensation. HOWEVER, VERY STRICT TIME LIMITS APPLY!

You MUST have an assessment of the degree of your injury done by a medical practitioner and the doctor’s report and specific forms lodged at Workcover within 5 months and 1 week from the date you first received Workers’ Compensation payments. Miss the deadline and you miss out!

What about Rehabilitation?
Under the Workers’ Compensation Act you have a right to be rehabilitated, and you may choose the person that helps you in the rehabilitation process.

WARNING:
If you CHOOSE YOUR OWN rehabilitation provider rather than have one appointed by your employer’s insurance company, your interests will be better represented. If you need clarification on this, call the Helpline 9325 9996.
